The Sweet Deception Continues....

Just wanted to post this video for my own future reference the next time I hear of the Corn Refiners Association's attempt to LITERALLY sugar coat the harmful effects of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). First they dole out their Sweet Surprise propaganda to downplay HFCS's deleterious effects (which the President of the Association calls "urban legend") by likening the poison to sugar. Now they want to further stress the synonymity by changing the name to "corn sugar."

Well, as Robert Lustig explains in the above YouTube video, "Indeed this is true. High fructose corn syrup and sucrose are exactly the same. They're both equally bad, okay? They're both dangerous. They're both poison." (Surprise!) For anyone interested in seeing how this is so, he provides a very thorough demonstration of his case.

Bottom line: HFCS is bad for you. And hoodwinking the public into believing otherwise by comparing it to sugar (an equally poisonous substance) is disingenuous and disgraceful. What's even more upsetting is the Association's laziness in finding an alternative name. I mean, come on, "corn sugar?" Are people really expected to place higher faith in a product that has the term "sugar" in it? We all know sugar is unhealthy too. Are we supposed to be stupid enough to fall for whatever they're trying to accomplish with this PR move? Apparently, yes.

Sigh....

Please, American consumers. For once, let's prove these corporate assholes wrong! If you start seeing "corn sugar" on the food labels, shun that mess just as quickly as you would "high fructose corn syrup." Your body will thank you for it.
